Scupini Romani

As I have already mentioned, I am taking part in the Scupini Romani Festival - a festival celebrating the life of Romans who ages back lived in Scupi what is today known as Skopje. It is a brand of Haemus -  which is a center for scientific research and promotion of culture. It consists of plenty portable exhibits (pottery, clothing, jewelry, knitted items, souvenirs) which are specially designed for this purpose and handmade by artists, artisans and craftsmen, inspired by the rich cultural heritage from the Roman period discovered in the Republic of Macedonia.

What is the festival about?

It is an attempt to capture and reconstruct people’s everyday life in ancient Scupi, and we’ve tried to visualize part of beliefs, traditions, fashion, food and crafts through several craft workshops practiced in antiquity (pottery, jewelry, crochet, wickerwork, hairdressing and mosaic). All participants, including the organizers, will be dressed in authentic costumes and jewelry.

The festival will be supplemented by public lectures from archaeologists who research Roman archaeology, then there will be tasting of Roman food, followed by an exhibition of costumes and clothes inspired by ancient Rome. The opportunity for buying domestic hand-made souvenirs based on the ancient Roman cultural heritage which derives from the territory of the Republic of Macedonia will be available to the visitors.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about the whole thing. It will take place this Sunday, and I will make enough material for a couple of engaging posts.

How exciting! I hope you will be sharing more news about this festival with us. Roman heritage is also rich in Spain and I love visiting archaelogical sites and museums to know more about them. Historical reeanactments are always very interesting. Enjoy it!

Thank you Alhana! It's great to know we both share the same love :)
I will make sure to most adequately transfer the ambience and the atmosphere there.

How exciting! There is a lot of similarity between Roman and Indian culture - including the clothing (stola-palla as Saree - pallu) and I waiting to see pictures of the event

My husband has taken the obligation to document the festival so there will be loads of pictures.
